Perhaps the US deserves Donald Trump

That is strong smack, JacquesD. You have a talent for the sarcasm.

Well, there is some truth to your comment. However, it isn't always necessary to win to make a political impact, e.g. we'll see what long term effects the campaign of Bernie Sanders will have.
Also, should the term "democracy" be used when the choice is between two parties that essentially function as corporate appendages? Be gentle with the derision, Sir.
#51 You state Trump's political themes more coherently than he does. It actually makes sense the way you put it. But I sure haven't heard him say anything nearly that intelligent.
what I teach my children is that when others sound stupid, it's always because we don't understand them.
Cakeovic, I accept your point for primaries (you mention Sanders' campaign), but I don't see how it would apply to the final election.

If your problem with the American political system is that presidential candidates tend to be "corporate appendages", which I agree is a large problem, then you have a very good reason to vote Trump as he is rich enough and willing to invest his own money that his campaign was mostly self-funded, which makes him effectively independent from corporate lobbies.
I am indian and people i see around me are ignorant fucks that are going gaga over Hillary clinton. Why? Because of media portrayal of trump. I have seen americans supporting Trump. I say let the elections role. then we will see.
LDog11, well, I think he does a rather good job at stating his political themes, given that he was chosen as the republican candidate and he might actually win the election. The only problem is that more educated people are put off by the apparently non-educated talk. But (especially if you claim to be more intelligent than the people who respond positively to the "uneducated talk") you need to go beyond the surface and understand the actual stakes.
According to JacquesD

"More interesting is the question whether Trump actually has a coherent political philosophy or not. I think he does, and here it is, in one paragraph."

A paragraph later JacquesD says:

"On other issues, he favors pragmatic solutions (in the spirit of his business orientation) over ideological ones, which is why he says he's very open on many subjects and can change his mind."

Maybe Trump has a coherent philosophy, not so JacquesD who first states that Trump is coherent in his philosophy but he changes his mind as he sees fit. Either he is coherent or he is not, you can't have it both ways.

I feel that Trump appeals to the average US citizen who needs somebody or something to blame for his problemas. Trump gives them Mexicans and Muslims. In other times it has been communists, or undocumented persons, terrorists, jews, christians, ad nauseam, ad absurdum; it really doesn't matter as long as it is somebody else...
It is possible to have a coherent and even stable political philosophy, and change one's mind on some topics.

A political philosophy by essence is general. It is not a set of positions on all political topics, nor does it logically imply particular positions on all topics.

Also you should distinguish between "coherent" and "stable". A coherent set of positions is one that doesn't contain nor imply any contradiction, while a stable one is one that doesn't change over time. Someone's positions can change over time but be coherent at any given time; or they can never change, but be incoherent.

Anyway, this shows why Donald Trump speaks in simple terms and avoids theoretical concepts. It's better to use a language that everyone understands.
Well, I think I get your point, finally. Men, not women, men have always gone for the bellicose solutions, it´s in our genetic nature. Kill or be killed, over 300 thousand years of evolution can not be wrong. It is simpler to speak in simple terms; them or us. It works for most people, it appeals to their primordial instincts. To think otherwise is too difficult for Trump and his followers, warmongering they understand, so warmongering is spoken to them. You are right, JAckesD, one can have a coherent position, one can have a primitive position, one can be coherent and basic and choose to stay like that. I´m sure you are happy like that, I´m sure Trump is also happy like that...
Read the thread again more slowly and you may understand that Clinton in the warmonger of the two, not Trump.

I know your messianic drivel full well, even better than you know it yourself. I have thought it through and found it empty.

You should focus on Mexican politics. That's where you have a voice. Politics is not just about moral posturing and forum trolling. It's the way people organize to live the life that they think is the good life. That's wisdom -- not your messianic twaddle.
