I'm saying that the position (emphasis on "the position") is not as simple as "There's a perpetual."
Sure, if Nxf2+ had been played, the players may have unconditionally gone for the perpetual.
The fact that many strong players missed the more complicated line just means they missed the line; strong players missing the complications in a position doesn't make the position any less complicated.
Just talking about different things. I just wanted to make sure people were aware that there was a more complicated line white could choose.
That's unequivocally true, and it may also be true as you say that the players missed that completely and wouldn't play into it if they saw it.
The two are not mutually exclusive :)
