Simple math to advice on the attack - The Russian Method/Attack coefficient

Learn to attack better and understand the math behind it

There are some things that are so simple that everyone should know them.

For attacks on the king most players seems to think they should just have a good sense for it or be able to calculate it out.
Well, but all means always calculate your moves but there is a old and simple path to get a sense for good attacks.

All it really is to look at the value of the pieces you have that is aimed towards the opponents king, and the value of the pieces that defend their king.
Then if your value is twice of theirs you have a promising attack.
If it three times more you should be able to smash your way through at once, with sacrifices and such.

"If I have that much of an attack, of course I know" or perhaps most would say that it answers nothing about how to create the attack.

Well there isn't really anything that can be said that wouldn't just make it sound more complicated than it is.
But perhaps the best example of how easy to use yet strong this basic formula is, would be one of the latest chess engines "Tourch" that focus on this.

If you seen its games or willing to look them up, you will find that it willing to give anything up if it finds a path where the remaining pieces it has left is aimed towards the opponents king and outvalue the defenders of said king at least 2.5 times.

I would say you will find this basic math method to be true in every brilliant game there is.

Alright so if assume this is true, yet the question maybe remains, how about if opponents king can try flee from the attack?
Maybe you sometimes see that you can get through the defense of a castled king, but unsure if the opponent somewhere during the attack can start move their king towards the middle.
In other words, you calculate that you can defeat the defenders in lets say 3-4 moves. But that the king that was suppose to be on g8 and helpless, instead walked back to e8 during the attack.

In any case, as there is always a "but" in chess... this method doesn't need to checkmate the opponent, it doesn't need a quick finish. The numbers just need to remain, which means that you can attack a king that will flee, if you still have attacking pieces that 2.5 times the defenders of their king.

Understanding to attack this way will also of course create a understanding for when need to defend when opponent building up pressure against your king.
It could also be a game changer when both sides attacking, Sicilian Dragon or such. As to whom really have the better attack.

In fact this focus on reaching the king and not only look at directly catching the king per say, will make most opponents not see it like you do, and some will think you must have cheated.
But it just very simple math with the piece-values as base.

Thanks for reading and yes it might not make too much sense at first but just by knowing about it, you will see it more and more in any game you look at.
Lastly, as some will find a way to misunderstand, it needs to be 2.5 times or better when it is your turn to move.
